25 DAYS / 1 MEAL PER DAY / TRADITIONAL SLIPWARE / FINAL FIRING / TRIP TO ULSAN / ACCOMMODATION ALL INCLUDED* Dates: Nov 27 - Dec 23, 2023 The learning residency will allow ceramic artists and students of clay to expand and consolidate their onggi or wheel throwing practice under the guidance of master Kwak Kyungtae. This residency is situated in the rich and inspiring environment of the Toroo Atelier in Icheon, South Korea. Residents will explore new skills alongside like-minded residents and members of Toroo's dedicated team. Each resident will balance their learning between one-on-one catered instruction given by Kwak Kyungtae and autonomous practice. Beyond training on form and technique, residents will be guided through the entire process of making a piece, from fundamentals of clay selection, traditional buncheong surface treatment to firing. Residents will also have the rare opportunity to travel south to Oegosan Onggi Village in Ulsan and meet Kwak Kyungtae's master, a National Living Treasure. *Please note: - Check in between 3pm - 5pm on Nov 27 (plan to arrive at Ye's Park at this time) - Toroo Studio's comfortable and fitted kitchen will be at your disposal during the Residency, you can shop for groceries at the local supermarket and prepare your breakfast and dinner, or eat out in the village at your own convenience. - We begin on Nov 28 with tea or coffee and a chat at 8am and a tour of the Toroo Studio. - Instruction begins each day around 9:30am, giving residents opportunities for one-on-one or small group learning. Lunch will be provided around 1pm. Afternoons will be reserved for autonomous practice until 5:30pm. You will have your own working space, unlimited clay for practice, wheel and a set of tools. - Checkout is at 12 noon on Dec 23 (plan to leave Ye's Park accommodation by this time). - We will cater the residency slightly differently for each resident's profile, depending on your experience level and practice style. Cancellations are allowed in the event that a participant would not like to attend for whatever reason after payment is received, a refund (minus bank transfer fee) will be returned upon written request according to the following timetable: Up to 60 Days before the start date: 100% REFUND Within 60 Days of the start date: 50% REFUND After the first day of the workshop: NO REFUNDS. If for any reason you cannot attend due to illness or other personal reasons, we will be happy to offer you a spot in a future workshop at no additional cost as an alternative.
