Service Description

12 DAYS / 12 NIGHTS / 3 MEALS PER DAY / APRONS + TOOLS + CLAY / ACCOMMODATION ALL INCLUDED** Learn the lost art of the Onggi technique, a method unique in the world for coil building large pots and forms. Traditionally born out of necessity in Korea, Onggi pots were and still are used today for food fermentation and storage. A quintessential example of how form follows function, both the forms and building techniques are a living art in and of themselves. You will be given your own set of wooden tools to use during the course, and taught how to make coils, flatten the base of the pot, and coil the clay using the “Taryeom” method. Later you will learn how to paddle the form and shape it, giving you a newfound sense of volume and proportion on a large scale. There are only a handful of Onggi masters left in Korea, and even fewer opportunities to learn from one first hand in his studio. New for this year we are including several onggi specific cultural outings, the possibility of artist visits, along with a hands on, super authentic fermentation experience in our own studio with antique onggi we cant wait to share with you! **Please note: -Check in between 3pm - 5pm on April 30 (please plan to arrive at our studio during this time) -Dinner will be provided together with the other students on April 30 evening. -Course begins May 1 with breakfast in our studio at 8:20am - Instruction begins each day at 9am, lunch will be provided followed by a short break and again practice and instruction until evening. Dinner will be provided each night. Our last dinner and party together will be on May 11th evening -Checkout is at 12noon on the 12th. (Plan to leave our studio at this time).
