Artist Development Residency

April 14 - May 5, 2026 We invite you to our very first artist development residency. This residency is geared toward artists who desire facilities and mentorship to finetune their technique, with the end goal of executing a personal ceramics project. If you are looking to acquire the control and precision necessary to realise your artistic goals, this is the residency for you. Compared to the Learning Residency, the curriculum be more independent and project-driven. Artists will be expected to have a foundation in Korean-style wheel throwing and to come with a proposal for their learning goals to be met during their time in Toroo Studio. Upon arrival, each resident will discuss and plan their goals with Teacher Kwak Kyung Tae, and the finalised practice plan will be agreed. This residency would be especially helpful for those looking to escalate the scale of their wheelthrowing, for example coming with the aim of throwing vessels taller than 50cm. NOTE: we will also accept registration from artists with prior experience in onggi techniques who wish to further develop these. Requirements: - Foundation in Korean-style wheel or onggi. - Self motivated - Personalised ceramic project proposal Provided for you: - Guidance and teaching - Space for independent study - Accommodation in our ceramic village, within walking distance of the studio. - Personal wheel and all necessary tools - Unlimited clay - Access to comprehensive tool and materials shop from which residents can purchase additional materials Instruction by Teacher Kwak Kyung Tae is simultaneously translated from Korean into English. *Please note: - Check in between 3pm - 5pm on April 14 (plan to arrive at Ye's Park at this time). We will have dinner together following residents’ arrival. - We will provide lunch each day. Toroo Studio's kitchen will be at your disposal during the Residency where you can prepare your breakfast and dinner, or eat out in the village at your own convenience. We will go grocery shopping together following residents’ arrival. We will provide staple groceries as well as coffee and tea. - Instruction will start on April 15. The studio will open from 8:30am each day. - Lunch will be provided at around 1pm. Clean-up each day will be from 5:30pm. - Checkout is at 11am on May 5th (plan to leave our studio at this time). Cancellation Policy

To secure your spot in a programme, we ask for a deposit of 50% of the programme tuition. In the event of cancellation, we can provide a refund (minus bank transfer fee and/or PayPal fees) under the following conditions: If you cancel up to 90 Days before the start date of the programme: full deposit refund If you cancel between 90 - 60 days before the start date: no refund of deposit. If second payment has already been completed during this window, 50% refund of full tuition. If you cancel within 60 days before the start date of the programme: no refund. Within 90 days of the programme start date you will be contacted for payment of the second instalment of the tuition; this will be due 60 days before the start date (at the latest). Failure to pay the second tuition installment on time will result in automatic cancellation and the deposit will not be returned. The space will be given to the next person on the waiting list. We appreciate your understanding as those on our waiting list need sufficient time to arrange travel to Korea and late cancellation removes the opportunity for other students to experience the programme.
