Spring 12 Day Wheel Throwing Masterclass

  • Started Apr 29
  • 5,500 US dollars

12 DAYS / 12 NIGHTS / 3 MEALS PER DAY / APRONS + TOOLS / CLAY / PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION INCLUDED** Dates: April 29th - May 11th, 2024 This throwing-focused program is all about building confidence on the wheel. Ancient Korean throwing techniques are taught step by step through theory, demonstration, and guided practice. You will learn how to throw off the hump, and master basic but fundamental shapes from the “Sabal” or tea bowl, to plates, cylinders, larger forms, and jars. We believe it is essential that students develop an honest relationship with clay, know its limits, and understand that each time we touch the clay, there must be a reason and a method to our movements. By breaking down each step in the same way our ancestors taught us, students can sharpen their skills and aspire to a higher level of craftsmanship in their own practice. Imagine all the lessons one would learn as an apprentice, condensed into 12 days of focused practice sessions. Students from all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome. Instruction and demos will be both general for the group and also catered to each individual student’s goals and/or abilities. Learn how to practice the way the ancients did and follow the path to mastery on the wheel. New for this longer format we are including several ceramic specific cultural outings, tool shop visits, several national living treasure demos, and artist visits which we can't wait to share with you. ****Please note: - Check in between 3pm - 5pm on April 29th (plan to arrive at our studio during this time). - Dinner will be provided together with the other students on April 29th evening. - Teaching begins April 30th with breakfast in our studio from 8:30am. - Instruction begins each day at 9:30am, lunch will be provided around 1pm followed by a short break and again practice and instruction until evening from 2:30pm until 5:30pm. Dinner will be provided each night. Our last dinner and party together will be on the evening of May 10th. - Checkout is at 11am on May 11th (plan to leave our studio at this time).
