Autumn Wheel Throwing Masterclass
Available spots
October 13 - October 25, 2026 This throwing-focused program is all about building confidence on the wheel. Traditional Korean throwing techniques are taught step by step through theory, demonstration, and guided practice. You will learn how to spiral wedge, throw off the hump, and master fundamental shapes from the “sabal” (tea bowl), to then work on plates, cylinders, larger forms, and jars. We believe it is essential that students develop an honest relationship with clay, know its limits, and understand that each time we touch the clay, there must be a reason and a method to our movements. By breaking down each step in the same way our ancestors taught us, students can sharpen their skills and aspire to a higher level of craftsmanship in their own practice. Students from all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome. Instruction and demonstrations will be given for the group and also catered to each individual student’s goals and abilities. During the Masterclass we take students on several ceramic specific cultural outings, along with national living treasure demos and artist visits we can't wait to share with you. Students can expect to walk away with new skills, great memories with new ceramics-minded friends and a few of their own finished pieces produced during the masterclass as a reminder of their time in Toroo Studio. *Please note: - Check in between 3pm - 5pm on October 13th (plan to arrive at our studio during this time). We will have a welcome dinner with all the students on the evening of October 13th. - Teaching begins October 14th with a breakfast together in our studio from 9:00am. - Instruction begins each day at 9:30am, lunch will be provided around 1pm followed by a short break and again practice and instruction until evening from 2:30pm until 5:30pm. - Our last dinner and party together will be on the evening of October 24th. - Checkout is at 11 am on October 25th (plan to leave our studio at this time). Please indicate any dietary restrictions during the registration process. We look forward to welcoming you!
