Spring Wheel Throwing Masterclass
Available spots
12 DAYS / 2 MEALS PER DAY / ACCOMMODATION ALL INCLUDED* May 15–May 27, 2027 This throwing-focused program is all about building confidence on the wheel. Traditional Korean throwing techniques are taught step by step through theory, demonstration, and guided practice. Instruction and demonstrations will be given for the group and also catered to each individual student’s goals and abilities—all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome! Students will learn how to spiral wedge, throw off the hump, and master fundamental shapes from the “sabal” (tea bowl), to plates, cylinders, larger forms, and jars. We believe it is essential that students develop an honest relationship with clay and understand the methods to their movements so they can sharpen their skills and aspire to a higher level of craftsmanship in their own practice. During the Masterclass we will also take students to the ceramic tool shop, host demos from National Living Treasures, and conduct artist visits. In the end, students can expect to walk away with new skills, great memories, and a few of their own finished pieces as a reminder of their time in Toroo Studio. *PLEASE NOTE: - Check-in is between 3:00pm–5:00pm on May 15 (plan to arrive at Toroo Studio during this time). We will have dinner together in the evening following everyone’s arrival. - Teaching begins May 16 with breakfast in our studio from 9:00am. - Teaching will start each day at 9:30am, with lunch at 1:00pm followed by a short break before resuming practice and instruction from 2:30pm until 5:30pm. - Dinner will be provided each night.
