Starts May 28, 2026
7,900 US dollars

21 NIGHTS / 1 MEAL PER DAY / ACCOMMODATION ALL INCLUDED* May 28 - June 18, 2026 A rare opportunity to learn both traditional Korean wheel throwing and wood firing techniques! This special version of the Wheel Throwing Learning Residency will involve a wood kiln firing of residents’ wheel thrown work. You will participate in a wood kiln firing of pieces you’ve made during the technical curriculum, in the process experiencing how the studio’s custom wood kiln fires in shifts over two days. Over the 21 days, residents will each have an assigned station inside Toroo Studio, with access to unlimited clay for practice, a wheel and all necessary tools, equipment and materials for making. Instruction by Teacher Kwak Kyung Tae is simultaneously translated from Korean into English, with additional teaching also provided by Teaching Assistants in English. Teaching will be provided every day, with the exception of the second and third Sunday (December 21st and December 28th) when the studio will be closed to allow residents to rest and explore the ceramics village. Each resident will be provided accommodation in Ye's Park within walking distance of the studio. The village in which the studio is located is full of ceramic artists and their studios. *Please note: - Check in between 3pm - 5pm on May 28 (plan to arrive at Ye's Park at this time). We will have dinner together following residents’ arrival. - We will provide lunch each day. Toroo Studio's kitchen will be at your disposal during the Residency where you can prepare your breakfast and dinner, or eat out in the village at your own convenience. We will go grocery shopping together following residents’ arrival and the studio will also provide dinner twice a week. We will provide staple groceries as well as coffee, tea and desserts. - Instruction will start on May 29. Teaching begins each day at 9:30am, giving residents opportunities for one-on-one or small group learning, complemented by residents’ autonomous practice in the afternoon. - Lunch will be provided at around 1pm. Clean-up each day will be from 5:30pm. - The studio will be closed on the second and third Sundays (June 7th and 14th) to ensure residents get sufficient rest. - Our last dinner together will be on the evening of June 17th. Checkout is at 11am on June 18th (plan to leave our studio at this time). Please indicate any dietary restrictions during registration. We look forward to welcoming you!
