Spring Wheel + Wood Firing Residency

21 DAYS / 1 MEAL PER DAY / ACCOMMODATION ALL INCLUDED* April 19–May 10, 2027 A rare opportunity to learn both traditional Korean wheel throwing and wood firing techniques! This special upgrade of the Wheel Throwing Learning Residency will involve a wood kiln firing of residents’ wheel thrown work. You will participate in a wood kiln firing of pieces you’ve made during the technical curriculum, in the process learning how to prepare and fire the studio’s custom wood kiln in shifts over two days. Over the 21 days, residents will each have an assigned station inside Toroo Studio, with access to unlimited clay for practice, a wheel, all necessary tools, equipment and materials for making. Teaching begins on April 20, giving residents the opportunity for one-on-one or small group learning, to be then complemented by their autonomous practice. We will cater the residency for each resident's profile, depending on your experience level and practice style. Beginners are welcome, however prior experience in ceramics will help you to take full advantage of the independent nature of the residency. Teaching will be provided every day with the exception of the second and third Sunday (April 25 and May 2) when the studio will be closed to allow residents to rest and explore the artists and studios in the ceramics village. *PLEASE NOTE: - Check-in is between 3:00pm–5:00pm on April 19 (plan to arrive at Toroo Studio during this time). We will have dinner together in the evening following everyone’s arrival. - Teaching begins April 20 with breakfast in our studio from 9:00am. - Teaching begins each day at 9:30am, with lunch at 1:00pm followed by a short break before resuming practice and instruction from 2:30pm until 5:30pm. - Toroo Studio's kitchen will be at your disposal during the Residency, you can shop for groceries at the local supermarket and prepare your breakfast and dinner, or eat out in the village at your own convenience. We will go grocery shopping to a larger market following residents’ arrival and the studio will serve dinner twice a week. We will provide staple groceries as well as coffee, tea and desserts. - Each resident will be provided accommodation in Ye's Park within walking distance of the studio. - Check-out is at 11:00am on May 10 (please plan to leave the studio at this time).
